About Vallecito Lake

Vallecito Lake is one of the largest and most beautiful bodies of water in Colorado. Its name, meaning "Little Valley" in Spanish, reflects its ancestral significance as the home of many of Colorado's Ute Indians. The lake features 2720 acres and 12 miles of scenic shoreline, making it a popular destination for boating and fishing enthusiasts.

Both motorized boats and non-motorized watercraft, such as kayaks and canoes, are allowed on the lake. Surrounded by majestic views of the Weminuche Wilderness, with peaks reaching 12,000 and 13,000 feet, Vallecito Lake is a reservoir that offers a stunning natural escape.

Vallecito Marina & Yacht Club

Vallecito Marina & Yacht Club is the only marina on Vallecito Lake. It’s located at 14772 County Rd 501 on the southeast shore. It offers a variety of rentals, including fishing boats, pontoon boats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs.) Visitors can also explore the marina shop, which is stocked with gear and supplies. Additionally, the marina provides buoy and slip rentals for watercraft.

Boat Ramp & Courtesy Dock Open to the Public

The Pine River Irrigation District maintains a boat ramp and courtesy dock for visitors, located at Vallecito Marina. The ramp is open from May 1 to November 1, with hours varying by season. While use of the ramp is free, permits are required for access. (see details below) Trailer parking is available while you’re on the water.

Boat and Recreation Permits

  • Trailered and/or motorized watercraft must undergo a mandatory inspection before entering the water. This is done at the ANS station at the marina and is Colorado law.
  • Trailered and/or motorized watercraft need a Boat Permit and Recreation Permit to access the lake. You can get a combo boat/recreation permit for $12/day.
  • Kayaks, canoes and SUPs don’t require a boat permit, but you still need a Recreation Permit. Anyone accessing the lake needs a Recreation Permit, which is $6/day/vehicle.
  • You can launch non-motorized boats at different access points around the lake, so you don’t have to use the marina.
  • There are day and annual permit options, and you can purchase permits right at our resort office.
