These stunning wood sculptures, crafted from trees that once stood in the fire-ravaged landscape, serve as lasting reminders of the bravery, strength, and unity that define the Vallecito Lake community.

Amidst the serene backdrop of Vallecito Lake, a carved wooden statue of a firefighter wielding an axe stands valiantly surrounded by flames. Nestled among trees with white flowers at the base, RVs and cabins suggest a campground setting while sunlight filters through. It's perfect for a tour of artistry and nature.

A Tribute to Heroes

After the Missionary Ridge Fire, local artists and woodcarvers transformed the remains of burned trees into breathtaking works of art. Each carving tells a story, honoring firefighters, first responders, and community members who played a role in the region’s recovery. Spread throughout the Vallecito area, these sculptures form an inspiring tour that connects visitors to the area’s history and spirit of perseverance.

Carving 1: Fireman with a Shovel

There are a total of 14 carvings, and we’re proud to host Carving #1 at our campground near Vallecito Lake. This impressive statue, known as "Fireman with Shovel," stands as a tribute to the tireless efforts of fire departments from the Four Corners area who battled the flames. The detailed carving captures the determination and bravery of these heroes, reminding us of the sacrifices made to safeguard our beautiful mountain landscape.
